Did your childhood soundtrack include, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart”?
I recently sang this children’s classic with my son, when he blurted out, “But what if I don’t?”
The boy has a disarming way of detonating a truth bomb.
“What if I don’t have joy down in my heart? How can I get some?”
Joy is a constant theme all through the Word of God. It is our strength. It enables perseverance through suffering. Joy is good medicine to a troubled heart.
With it, we thrive.
Without it, we languish.
Who doesn’t desire the energy and strength of joy? But what if it is just out of reach? For those who struggle to find joy, it is an elusive condition. Mysterious. Unachievable. Demoralizing.
Maybe the lucky ones overflow with contentment and rejoicing regardless of the circumstances. But is it real? Or is that a fake smile plastered on their faces?
Friends, joy is real! And it can grow in your life. With a small shift in conditions, you will start to see the green shoots of joy.
Join us for A Summer to Flourish as we jump into Thirty Days of Cultivating Joy. Mindy and Jenny share stories from their lives with practical tips to overcome adversity and find joy in the midst of all circumstances, both mundane and profound.
